  • Intermediate (10+2) from a recognised Board / University. (Minimum educational requirement).
  • Certificate/Diploma in English Shorthand and English Typing from a recognised institution.

  • Minimum shorthand speed: 80 words per minute in English shorthand (or as specified in the notification).

  • Minimum typing speed: 40 words per minute in English typing (or as specified).

  • Knowledge of computer application / basic computer diploma of at least six months may be required as per the notification for transcription & digital record-keeping.

How To Fill Online Form

Mode of selection

Selection for Stenographer normally has multiple stages:

Stage-I — Objective Written (CBT) or Offline Written Test:

  • Sections typically include General Awareness, General English, Reasoning, Numerical Ability and Computer Knowledge (if applicable).

  • Exam duration & marks are notified in the advertisement. Expect around 2 hours; verify the exact pattern in the notification.

Stage-II — English Shorthand Test (80 wpm):

  • Candidates who qualify the written exam will be called for shorthand dictation at prescribed speed (for example 80 words per minute). Test includes dictation and then transcription. Accuracy and speed both evaluated.

Stage-III — Typing Test:

  • Transcription / typing speed test on computer (minimum 40 wpm in English or as notified).

Stage-IV — Document Verification / Interview / Medical:

  • Final selection subject to documents verification and medical fitness. Some recruitments include an interview or viva voce in exceptional cases.
