Railway Exams – Complete Recruitment Guide
Indian Railways is the largest employer in the world with over 1.4 million employees. Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) and Railway Recruitment Cells (RRCs) conduct exams for various technical and non‑technical posts. Whether you are 10th pass, ITI holder, diploma, or graduate, there is a railway job for you.
Major Railway Exams
RRB NTPC (Non‑Technical Popular Categories): For graduate and undergraduate posts like Station Master, Clerk, Goods Guard, Typist, etc. Under CEN 01/2019 and subsequent notifications.
RRB Group D: For track maintainer, helper, assistant posts in various departments. Qualification: 10th pass + ITI or 10th pass.
RRB ALP & Technician: Assistant Loco Pilot and Technicians. Diploma/ITI in engineering trades.
RRB JE (Junior Engineer): For engineers in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.
RRC Group D (Level‑1): Earlier merged with RRB Group D.
RRB MI (Ministerial & Isolated Categories): For teachers, law assistant, etc.

Exam Pattern
RRB NTPC: 4 stages – 1st Stage CBT (100 questions, 90 min), 2nd Stage CBT (120 questions, 90 min), Typing Skill Test / Computer Based Aptitude Test, Document Verification.
RRB Group D: CBT (100 questions, 90 min), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Document Verification.
RRB ALP: First Stage CBT, Second Stage CBT (Part A & B), Computer Based Aptitude Test, Document Verification.

Syllabus Overview
Mathematics: Number system, decimals, fractions, LCM/HCF, ratio & proportion, percentage, time & work, speed distance, simple & compound interest, profit & loss, geometry, mensuration.
Reasoning: Analogies, coding‑decoding, mathematical operations, syllogism, Venn diagrams, data interpretation, statement‑conclusion.
General Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (upto 10th standard).
General Awareness: Indian railways history, current affairs, geography, economy, sports, awards.
Railway Salary & Benefits
NTPC Graduate posts get Level‑5 or Level‑6 pay (Rs. 29,200–1,00,000+). Group D Level‑1 pay Rs. 18,000+ with allowances, free railway passes, medical, housing facilities. ALP and JE get higher grade pay plus running allowance.
Preparation Tips
1. RRB NTPC and Group D previous year papers are crucial – solve at least 20 sets.
2. Use Lucent GK and Science book for GS section.
3. Practice mock tests daily, focus on time management.
